It is verging on old news, but as of 1 March 2013, I am employed at the Université Paris IV-Sorbonne as postdoc and scientific secretary on the Laboratoire d’ Excellence (LABEX) “Ecrire one nouvelle histoire de l’Europe” (Writing a new history of Europe – EHNE). My job involves the research co-ordination for the first of the project’s 7 ‘axes’ of research Europe in Flux – Europe as a product of material civilization, and especially assisting in the development of a new online encyclopedia.
The project grows in part out of research in the Tensions of Europe network, in which my colleagues Pascal Griset and Léonard Laborie are also actively involved. It is subdivided into three aspects of circulation in Europe and the networks that have supported them, above all in the modern and contemporary eras: Energy, exploring the development of European energy networks, Communication, looking at the interaction between global and European networks from the telegraph to the internet (and taking in, of course, the radio…) and Mobility and Merchandise tracing the circulation of goods and the means of transporting them.

And of course, there might also be a distraction or two here….
